Proviso School Board Provides Breakfast Program for Students

Under the leadership of Board President Emanuel "Chris" Welch and the Proviso School Board, PTHS 209 is now serving breakfast! Over the summer, the PTHS 209 Board of Education voted to approve a new food service contract that offers students quality breakfast and lunch meals.

PTHS 209 has not offered breakfast programs in the past.

Studies show that children who eat breakfast perform better in school. According to the Kaiser Permanente Health Group and various health studies children who don’t have breakfast get sleepy at school, have a harder time paying attention, and tend to eat more junk food later in the day.

PTHS 209 currently provides free and reduced lunch to students at Proviso East, Proviso West, and PMSA.

Parents who meet eligibility guidelines are encouraged to apply for this option during the registration process and throughout the school year.

The regular breakfast price is $1.70. Students have the option to use the WINSNAP system, which is similar to a debit card where parents can have money loaded to the student’s account to pay for breakfast and lunch. The card can be replenished regularly. The WINSNAP option also reduces time spent in the cafeteria line and parents can have the comfort of knowing that their students have funds to pay for meals while at school.
