On Sept 18, 2008, Board President Emanuel "Chris" Welch, Superintendent Nettie Collins-Hart, the Proviso School Board, and the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will host "Bring Your Parent to School Day." On Sept 25th PTHS 209 will have Back to School Night, which is an abbreviated version of "Bring Your Parent to School Day."
During these events parents are encouraged to come to school with their child and spend the day as a Proviso student.
"This is a great way for parents to become more actively involved in their child's education and to see a school day through the eyes of a student," said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. "This event will encourage teachers and parents to develop positive relationships. It will also be encouraging for students to see how invested their parents are in their education."
According to a summary written by Johns Hopkins University when parents participate in "Bring Your Parent to School Day," students' behavior and production improves. PTHS 209's "Bring Your Parent to School Day" and "Back to School Night" is designed to provide parents with the insight and tools they need to help their child become a better student. "Bring Your Parents To School Day" was the thought of by current Board President Emanuel "Chris" Welch six years ago, and it has now been emulated across the country.
Parents who cannot attend "Bring Your Parent to School Day" are encouraged to attend "Back to School Night" on Sept. 25th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
